Janice Faye Miller-Gossett, age 74 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 10:00 PM at Massac Memorial Hospital.

Janice was born July 8, 1942, in Pomona Township, Jackson County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Fred Stearns and Olean Etherton Stearns.

On November 9, 1989, Janice was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Rodger L. Gossett in Buncombe, Illinois. He survives.

Janice is survived by her son – James (his wife, Tammy) Miller of Vienna; daughter-Dawn (her husband, Byron) LaPorte of Webster, TX, and daughter Holly Gossett; her grandchildren – Brennan and Alex Miller of Vienna, Chris Boyke of Lafayette, LA, and Brittany Boyke of New Orleans, LA; sisters Bernell Wright of Murphysboro, IL, and Lois Welch of Bolivar, MO. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents - Fred and Olean Etherton Stearns; her brothers – Tom Stearns, John Rondell Stearns, brothers-in-law - Marvin Wright and John Welch and sisters-in-law - Pat Stearns and Rosie Stearns.

Janice was a 1960 graduate of the Murphysboro Township High School. Janice attended Shawnee Community College and Washington University. Janice was a nursing home administrator for over 30 years and continued her love for serving the elderly by joining a home health organization after her retirement.

She was a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church. Janice was a Sunday School teacher and a very active Church member.

Family was very important to Janice. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and travelling with her beloved husband Rodger. She also enjoyed scrapbooking in her spare time.

A funeral service honoring the life of Janice Miller-Gossett will be conducted Thursday morning, March 9, 2017, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon at the First Baptist Church, 301 North 7th St., Vienna, IL.

A graveside committal service will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 PM at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, 31 Memorial Drive, Murphysboro, IL.

Visitation will be conducted Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church (Food Pantry Program), P.O. Box 727, Vienna, IL 62995.
