Victoria passed away peacefully September 30, 2012, after a very long and full life. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. Earl Gilbert; her daughters, Michele Bourdieu and Suzanne Dunn; their five children and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Gilbert.

She was born Victoria "Viki" Matusak in Lackawanna, New York, on March 13, 1918. The daughter of Croatian immigrants Stephan "Steve" Paul Matusak 1889-1963 and Ljuba "Millie "1891-1942, who came to the United States in early 1900s. Viki grew up in Buffalo with a loving family of two sisters and a brother.
In the late 1940s she moved with her husband to the Chicago area, where she spent much of her life and raised her three children. The couple moved to Kingman, Arizona, in the early 70s. In 1993 they finally settled in Sun City at Royal Oaks, a beautiful Lifetime Care facility.

Victoria was a generous and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved many and was loved by many. She encompassed strength and warmth in the same spirit. Victoria left us with many great memories and traditions. We owe so many thanks to such a loving lady. Michele is thankful to her mother for saving her life as a newborn baby with a dangerous ear infection. Suzanne is thankful to her mother for showing her love and compassion with millions of hugs and kisses.

Victoria's talents and accomplishments were many: She was a gourmet cook, a master gardener, an excellent seamstress and a fantastic bridge player. She also enjoyed reading, singing, entertaining -- and more. One of the most important legacies Victoria passed to her family was her strong faith in God. Attending daily mass as a young woman and always participating in her local parish events, Victoria remained faithful to her religion all her life and enjoyed her participation in the Choir at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City.

We have many great memories and are so grateful for the many years we were blessed with our wonderful "Mimi."

Mimi, may you now rest in God's loving arms. We love you.
