CHOTEAU—Henry John Ostle, 81, a longtime Blackleaf rancher, died of natural causes Thursday at his home.

His funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau, with burial in Choteau Cemetery. Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Helena, and attended Beaver Creek elementary school near Winston. He purchased a cattle ranch there in 1941, which was flooded when the Canyon Ferry Dam was built. He then moved to the Blackleaf area west of Bynum in 1951.

Ostle was a school board trustee for Teton River School and the Bynum School, and in the early 1950s was instrumental in getting the Blackleaf road raised and improved.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Helena and enjoyed attending livestock sales, gardening, playing cards, storytelling and watching game shows.

His wife died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter; son [names omitted]; sister, Violet Lay of Rosco; two brothers, Marion Ostle and Percy Ostle of Bynum; and two grandchildren.—Great Falls Tribune, May 6, 2000, Pg. 2-M
