Jackie passed away March 3rd after suffering from recent health issues. She was born on June 6, 1936 to Earl B Swain and Maxine Mathis she was the 2nd of 4 beautiful Daughters, Barbara, (deceased) Sharon (deceased) and Linda (Vernal, Utah). Jackie was born in Vernal, Utah and other than a very short time in Murray, Utah as a young girl she grew to an adult in Vernal.
She met and Married Charles (Chuck) Preece, who preceded her in death in 2008.They had 5 Children, McCoy (Karen), West Jordan, Utah; Marilyn (Blain) Slater, Malad, Idaho; Kelly (Gary) Clark, Morgan, Utah; Robyn, LaVerkin, Utah; Lynette (Manuel) Trujillo, Vernal, Utah.
She was a Member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,serving in many callings including: Primary President, Counselor and Teacher, Relief Society President, and Counselor. She also served with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Mom always told us she was the book keeper and bottle washer for Dad's construction business, together they had a very successful business which provided a wonderful home and life for her family.
She was a very proud person but very private, she would hardly talk about herself but always praised her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren that she absolutely adored, to anyone that would listen. She was only 5 feet 1/4 inch (and she always added that 1/4 inch) but she was a giant among women. She frequently reminded us that her foot size only a 5 but if she put them both together she would have a 10 and we had better watch out.
During her life she had many challenges she broke her back, had a Heart valve replacement and battled and Won her fight against Cancer.She loved going on the Cancer Walk Relay each year until her health prohibited her from participating.
Mom loved being a homemaker and making sure you had plenty to eat always worried you would leave her house hungry. She enjoyed helping Dad (Chuck) fix meals with the Bar B Que and Dutch oven. Her favorite was making dessert including: Scones, Texas Sheet Cake and a frozen strawberry ice-cream and cookies that would melt in your mouth. We also have it on good authority that her Tacos were "the Best around". The one thing she absolutely had to have everyday was her "Diet Coke" she would open a can first thing in the morning and sip on it throughout the day.
After Dad passed away life was very difficult for her, Dad and Mom developed very good friends throughout their life together. One of those was Phil Murray and his wife, a business partner and lifelong friend they enjoyed many trips, Cruises and outings together. After Phil's wife passed away, he and mom remained friends, he was always available to help her in any way he could. They enjoyed each other's company over lunch usually at the same restaurant eating the same meal at the same booth most every day. The staff at Don Pedros knew them on first name basis, didn't even need to order they were greeted, sat and their meal brought to them without waiting.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Vernal 4th Ward Chapel (2535 East 6000 South). A Viewing for family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 and at the chapel one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Rock Point Cemetery, under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
