Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Guy and Gertrude Buchanan Cox of Greenwood. He was a 1951 graduate of Greenwood High School and enlisted in the US Navy He sailed around the world twice as he served his country proudly, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Whenever he traveled, his favorite place was at home, with his family.
After retiring from the Navy, he returned to Greenwood and went to work with the Southern Brick Company in Ninety Six, where he worked for over 20 years. When he retired from Southern Brick, he continued to serve his community by volunteering at the Greater Greenwood United Ministries and the Greenwood Food Bank and Soup Kitchen.
He was a member and former ordained elder of Fraser Presbyterian Church and attended Woodfields Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 Thursday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Deborah Cox and Rev. Ben Hjalmer officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of Robert "Bobby" and Terri Cox, 108 Oaklane Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3:30 Thursday afternoon.
