LAWRENCE, Kan, — Pamela S. Andrews, 67, of Ottawa, Kan., died Saturday, Jan. 7, 201,7 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence.
She was born July 23, 1949, in McCook, Neb., the daughter of Alfred and Geraldine (Hansen) Baum. She graduated from McCook High School in 1967. Following graduation, she studied at University of Warwick in Coventry, England, and went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science and education degree in 1971. She was married July 10, 1971, to Danny Andrews of North Platte, Neb.
Her career as a teacher took her from the Douglas School System in Box Elder, S.S., to the Red Willow School District in Indianola, Neb., before coming to USD 290 in Ottawa, Kan. She taught in Ottawa for 25 years while also coaching volleyball for both the high school and middle school.
Pam was a member of the Phi Mu sorority at Nebraska University, a lover of Western movies and an avid golfer. She was a member of the Women’s Golf Association. Pam took 1st place, 2nd flight in the 1979 Kansas Women’s 9 hole Golf Tournament. She was also the Ottawa Country Club champion in 1980 and runner-up in 1983.
After retirement, a large amount of her time was spent with her grandson, Aiden. From week-long trips to Disney World to recently watching him earn his black belt in Taekwondo, Pam always had a smile on her face when she talked about her grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Geraldine Baum.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Andrews of Ottawa, Kan.; her daughter, Kori and son-in-law, Brian Demoret of Ottawa; a grandson, Aiden Demoret of Ottawa;; a brother, Ronald “Bud” Baum and his wife, Jan of Lubbock, Texas; a nephew, Chad Baum of Weatherford, Texas and a niece, Darcy Marshall of Lubbock, Texas.
To celebrate Pam’s life, a visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
