Actor, Songwriter. He shall be remembered for his co-penning (along with Bobby Scott) of the Grammy Award winning song "A Taste of Honey", which has been recorded by numerous artists including "The Beatles" and Herb Alpert. Born Eric Schafler and raised on Long Island,, New York, his interest in singing began at an early age. After studying at New York University, he served a stint in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he held several occupations which included a fabric salesman and cab drive, while trying to achieve his dream of becoming a professional singer. Determined to make a career as a performer, he turned to acting and began appearing on television during the late 1950s in episodes from such programs as "The Lawless Years" and "Bonanza". His break in the music industry came when he was hired to write a song for the Broadway adaptation of Shelagh Delaney's play "A Taste of Honey". His pairing with Bobby Scott yielded the song of the same title. Barbra Streisand recorded a version of the song for her debut album "The Barbra Streisand Album" (1963), which earned her a Grammy Award. "Herb Alpert and the Tujuana Brass" recorded a version for their album "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" (1965), which earned them a Grammy Award. He continued his acting career and went on to appear on the TV programs "Sea Hunt", "Hawaii 5-O" and "Magnum, P.I.". His film credits include the low-budget pictures "You Have to Run Fast" (1961), "The Incredible Sex Revolution" (1965) and "Psychedelic Sexualis" (1966). He was formerly married to actress Leslie Parrish from 1955 until 1961.
