Actor. Born Richard Henry Karant, he was a character actor who was known for his distinctive voice during his career. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was an Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After a stint as a salesperson, he was discovered by Dustin Hoffman at "Catch a Rising Star" event in New York and began an acting career. He would go to appear in both television and film during a career that lasted almost four decades. His television credits included such series as "Baretta", "ChiPs", "Starsky and Hutch", "Teachers Only", "Laverne & Shirley", "Webster", "Charlie & Co.", "It's Garry Shandling's Show", and "3rd Rock from the Sun". He also appeared in such films as "History of the World: Part I" (1981), "Fatso" (1980), "Ready to Rumble" (2000), and "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" (2000). He also did voice work on various animated series such as "Pinky and the Brain", "Quack Pack", "Goof Troop", and "Bobby's World.
