Phyllis Ann Henderson James was born November 20, 1952, in Galveston, Texas to Irene Henderson. She was the fourth of five children.
She was raised in Galveston, most of her life where she attended public school. Phyllis was baptized at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church as a young child, where she began her life as a Christian. Galveston is also where she met her dearest husband,Andrew James. She served by his side as First Lady of Living Word Resurrection Institutional Bible Church. She fulfilled her career in nursing at John Sealy Hospital (UTMB), for well over 22 years.
On the evening of March 3, 2017, Phyllis found her eternal resting place with God. Although she is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bishop Andrew James, her sons, Broderick D.James (Mechelle) and Jeremiah James, her daughters, Stephanie R. James-Dixon (Herbert) and VanikaJames, step-daughter, LakishaDavis, brothers John Ford (Pat) and Robert E. Henderson .
She also leaves her grandchildren Cherish, Dante’, Omarion, Zorian, Zyron, Za’carbia, Erieona, Kiericka, Miangel, and Shanecia;great grandchildren, Skylan, Kayln, Na’Kyrie and Brooklyn along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a public visitation held at Carnes Funeral Home on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9am with a chapel service to follow at 11am.
