It is not known exactly when Elmira Malitta Dement Young Brackin was born and died, or where she is buried. I have assigned her to the Donald/Strain cemetery because five of her children are buried there. Note that this cemetery assignment is speculative on my part.
According to census records, she was likely born in the early 1840s. She was still alive in 1902, when she filed an application for a widow's pension, based on her husband William Brackin's Civil War service.
Elmira Malitta Dement was first married to G.F. Young, and later married William Brackin. According to her widow's pension file, her marriage to Mr. Young was dissolved by death, and she married William Brackin under the name Elmira M. Young. The Alabama marriage index lists her name as "Mrs. Lyt Young" when she married William Brackin, September 19, 1867 in Lawrence county.
Elmira was the mother of George Thomas Young, Mary (Brackin) Summers, Samuel Edgar Brackin, Henry Harrison Brackin, Arizona "Arah" (Brackin) Tidwell, Josephine (Brackin) Weems, Perry Jackson Brackin, Emma (Brackin) Berry, and Willie Pearl (Brackin) Vick.
