Herbert Doering, Sr., 80 passed away at Community General Hospital in Sterling, Illinois on April 20, 1979. He was born September 13, 1898 in Hopkins Township, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Herman Doering. He was educated in Woodside School. He was united in marriage to Mabel Keefer of Sterling on March 15, 1922. She preceded him in death in 1949. He was then married to Anna Gibson of Lyndon, Illinois on March 20, 1965.

He was a member of Prophetstown Masonic Lodge OES, the Galt Grange and the Lyndon Historical Society. He farmed in the Lyndon area until 1959. He worked for the City of Prophetstown until 1972. He drove a school bus until 1978.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, Herbert Doering, Jr., Prophetstown and David Doering, one sister Irma Kitzm___, Sterling, two step-sons, Walter Gibson, Lyndon and Allen Gibson, Prophetstown. Four step-daughters, Marjorie Gardner, Dorrine Johnson, Prophetstown, Mrs. Lee Bierman, Belvadere, and Carol Gibson, Chicago, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and eight step-grandchildren.

Services were held at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements were by Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown.
