Mr. Hough was born June 10, 1923 at Council Bluffs, Iowa to Darius and Faustina (Daughterty) Hough.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Vera; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Mike Thompson of Poulsbo, Wash; and three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Hough of Grand Island, Donald and Cheryl Hough of Kearney, Marlyn and Jane Hough of York.
Also left to cherish to cherish his memory are 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He received his education in Miller, graduating in 1940. He was united in marriage to Vera N. Cool in 1942 in Phillipsburg, Kan. On Aug 6, 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge on Dec. 22, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon while serving in the Navy.
After his discharge from the Navy, the couple lived in Miller, Hastings, Kearney and Alma before coming to Grand Island. He was employed at New Holland for more than 20 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling in his RV, woodworking and was an avid coin collector and collected belt buckles.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, VFW club, Alma Volunteer Fire Department, Rolling Eagles Camping Club and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 378, being a trustee and holding numerous positions and offices. He was selected father of the year for the Eagles for 2002-03.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carson.
