FAIRFAX -- Emily Aja, age 15, died unexpectedly on Dec. 6, 2003. She passed quickly and without suffering. Her death leaves behind a deeply saddened community of family, friends, teachers, and others who loved Emily's bright personality, generous spirit, keen intellect, and loving heart.
Emily loved the beauty and quiet of her Fairfax home, where she had resided her entire life. There, in the loving company of her parents, Jim and Diane, and her sister, Marie, Emily lived a full, happy, healthy life.
Emily was a beautiful person, inside and out. Her golden blond hair and youthful beauty adorned a pure heart, a kind nature, and a gentle soul. To her very proud parents she was a sweet, loving, and delightful daughter. To her sister she was an inspiration and role model and deep companion in life. Emily had a special relationship with each of her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. To her many friends, Emily was loyal and committed and full of fun and laughter. She was stylish, witty and never lost for an opinion.
Emily was ambitious. An honor student and avid reader, Emily strove for high quality and achievement in everything that she did. Her life was too short to fulfill her life dreams; higher education, a successful career, her own home and family, but there is no question that she would have achieved whatever she set out to do.
Emily loved sports and was a member of the BFA, Fairfax JV basketball team. Each summer she attended horseriding camps and in recent years had attended adventure camps in Florida and New York. Emily loved to travel and was increasingly an adventuresome spirit. She was proud of her emerging driving abilities and increasing independence as she began to make the transitions to adulthood.
Emily's life ended in an accident that also took the life of her beloved mother, Diane. We have faith that they are together, taking care of one another, and listening to the thoughts and feelings of us who cared for them.
Emily's father and sister will keep Emily with them and hold her lovingly in their hearts forever more. Other close relatives dear to Emily include grandparents, Paul and Marion Aja of East Barre, Vt.; uncle, Kenneth Aja, also of East Barre; grandmother, Edith Blicksilver of Atlanta, Ga.; uncle, Robert Blicksilver of Alexandria, Va.; and uncle and aunt, Paul and Jean Blicksilver of Silburn, Ga. Emily's beloved "Grandpa Jack" Blicksilver of Atlanta passed away in 1999. Emily leaves behind numerous friends from The Schoolhouse, Fairfax Schools, Camp Farnsworth, and Camp Chenoa.
Emily will be interred in Fairfax in a private burial service ceremony, along with her mother, Diane. A service open to the public to remember and celebrate the lives of Emily and Diane will take place in two to three months. Time, date, and place will be announced. Emily's family hopes that all who knew and cared for Emily and her family will be able to attend.
