In 1955 Mr. Allen joined the US Army at Springfield MO as a demolition expert. He served in Germany, Ft. Campbell KY, where he was injured in a land mine accident. He was transferred to the carpentry unit there. He later was deployed to Korea where he was a crane operator. He was honorably discharged in August of 1965.
On June 9, 1959 he was married to the former Joyce Ann Brown. They had two daughters.
He moved to Manhattan where he worked for Bayer Construction, from where he retired earlier in 2000.
He was a member of the Manhattan Baptist Temple, the Blackjack American Legion.
