Elizabeth Gloria "Betty" Dutton was born April 20, 1924, to William and Amy (Vellek) Laws in Astoria, Oregon. She died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
Betty was born on Easter Sunday and this year celebrated her 90th birthday on Easter Sunday. She, being the youngest child with three older brothers, received her middle name to give glory to God. She was a strong, independent woman having lost her father when she was 11 years old and her oldest brother in WWII. Her mother and she left Oregon when she graduated high school. She lived on her grandparents farm in South Dakota for a while, but being a city girl at heart moved on to live with her aunt in Oklahoma City. She attended business school and went to work for the Dolese Brothers Co. in OKC. She married Tom B. Dutton in August of 1948. She was a homemaker and also worked alongside him in his State Farm insurance agency.
Betty was an avid sports fan. She loved the Sooners, Spurs, Cardinals, and the PGA. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and went to their games as often as possible. She loved flowers and spent many early mornings in her garden. Her favorite color was yellow which was indicative of her bright, cheery, positive outlook on life. She was always up for a trip to the casino and was very generous with her winnings.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Tom in 2006. She is survived by her brother Joseph Laws of Es-condido, CA; daughters, Marion Argo and husband John of Norman; Ann Goforth of Tulsa; her sons, Tom Dutton of Tulsa; Joe Dutton and wife Phyllis of Jenks; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A rosary will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, both at Church of the Resurrection in Tulsa. www.fitzgeraldsouthwoodchapel.com
