Lee graduated from South High School in Denver. She met her husband, George Douglas, while working at the Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Denver. They got married on June 11, 1944, just prior to George's enlistment in the U.S. Army. Following WWII, George resumed his career with the Bell System, which took the couple from Denver to New York to Colorado Springs, where the couple settled following retirement.
Lee had many interests including membership in investment clubs, book clubs, the PEO Sisterhood, the Red Hat Society and traveling. Additionally, she was a Life Member of the Air Force Association. However, her special joy was her family. Hobbies included bridge, crosswords, and word puzzles. Her activities included bowling, skiing, and golf.
Lee is survived by her husband of 72 years, George, her sons Scott and Bruce, their wives Janis and Cathy, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in memory of Ruby Lee Douglas.
Service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 1:00pm at Fairmount Cemetery's Mausoleum Chapel, 430 So Quebec St, Denver, CO. A reception will follow immediately thereafter.
