Anita Nelson Simmons, 70, passed away on February 24, 2017 at home in Crawfordville, FL. She was the wife of Troy Simmons. They shared 48 years of marriage together.
Born in Atlanta, Ga, she was the daughter of Ralph and Lois Fields Nelson. She attended Montgomery College and graduated with an AA in General Studies May 1998. She worked 31 years for National Geographic Society in Darnestown, MD as a Supervisor in Remittance Control.
During her time in Crawfordville, FL., Anita was an active member of Christ Church Anglican where she made cakes to celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of members of the congregation. She was also a member of several book clubs. She enjoyed crafting and traveling but most of all, spending time with her 2 granddaughters, Skyler Marie Hamm, and Brooke McKenzie Hamm.
In addition to her husband and granddaughters, Anita is survived by her daughter, Tara Simmons, of Dickerson, MD, and brother Earl Nelson of Franklin, WV.
A memorial service will be held on March 11, 2017 at 1pm at Christ Church Anglican, 3383 Coastal Highway, Crawfordville, Florida. A private burial in the Gulf will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
