J.T. “Jake” Akins, age 91, of Mableton passed away March 3, 2017. Jake retired from Globe Union after 30 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II. Jake was a member of the Society of 40 men and 8 Horses. He was also a life member of the American Legion, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jake is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Patricia Weir of Marietta, Tom (Beth) Akins of Atlanta, Bobby Akins of Marietta, and Anita Akins of Marietta; grandchildren Kevin (Jennifer) Weir, Lisa (Ken) Jaquith, Keith Weir, and Alex Akins; great grandchildren Lyndsay, Claire, Austin, Carson, Ella, Dayla, Colin, and Anna; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services was held at Barber Cemetery with Chaplain Jud Hanley officiating. Davis-Struempf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
