Susan "Su" Richards
1942 - 2017
Su Richards, 74, passed away peacefully February 27, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born September 24, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Horace S. E. and Beth Robinson Richards.
She traveled the world extensively with her parents as an "Army brat," living in Japan, Germany and all across the United States.
She attended several schools and her higher education included Westminster College (SLC) and Brigham Young University.
She was a cultural/social anthropologist, genealogist, research archivist and historian.
She worked at Wheeler Farm, the Utah State Historical Society, and for over 20 years at the Fort Douglas Military Museum where she received much recognition for her tireless work and contributions to the community.
She belonged to the General Federation of Women's Clubs and was recognized as a Women of Distinction by the Assistance League of SLC in 2012.
She is survived by: children, Lynnette "Dave" (Lynn) Smith, Lori (Jeff) Caldwell, and Gary (Gemma) Reid; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother, John (Cynthia) Richards.
She was interred on March 2, 2017 at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
A celebration of life, open house and "Phrogg adoption" will be held in her honor for friends and family Sunday, March 5, 5:00 p.m. at the Ft. Douglas Military Museum, 32 Potter St., Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a project she was passionate about: the Utah Military Women's Memorial c/o Ft. Douglas Military Museum.
