Carolyn Elaine Whitaker, 68, of Horse Shoe passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Elizabeth House. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was the daughter of Carroll Gilbert and Lois Edna Israel Hudson.
Elaine was a member of Mills River Baptist Church and retired from Mills River Elementary School. She was also a member of the Mills River fire department’s ladies auxiliary. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Elaine loved the lake and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Carroll Whitaker; sons, Phillip Whitaker and wife Rhonda and Jeremy Whitaker; grandchildren, Mason and Jordan Whitaker, Hannah and Ethan Stepp, all of Mills River; brother, Eddie Hudson of Fletcher; mother-in-law, Margaret Jane Whitaker of Mills River.
Funeral services will be held 2pm on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Mills River Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Whitaker-Moore Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7pm at the church.
