Mildred Vinita Morrison, 99, of Walnut Springs, passed away Friday afternoon, March 3, 2017, in Clifton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M., Tuesday, March 7, at the Walnut Springs Baptist Church with Rev. T. J. Joyner officiating. The visitation will be from 11:00 A. M. until service time the day of the service, also at the Walnut Springs Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Russell Cemetery near Walnut Springs. Pallbearers: Keith Morrison, Steve Hunter, Rick Hunter, Judson Morrison, Robert Morrison, and Chas Walts.
Mildred Vinita Chapman was born on September 25, 1917 to Leslie Clay and Alberta "Bertie" Newton Chapman in Walnut Springs, Texas. Mildred grew up in Walnut Springs area and graduated from Morgan High School.
At the age of 19, she married Earl C. Morrison on July 14, 1937. The young couple moved to and established their home in the country between Morgan and Walnut Springs, where they farmed and ranched. On February 11, 1970, Earl passed away and shortly there after Mildred moved into town in Walnut Springs.
Mildred was very civic minded and had many interests and hobbies. She loved to travel and enjoyed Mission work (went to St. Kitts on a mission trip when she was 80 years old) and church building trips. She was a member of the Walnut Springs City Council for 13 years and was Mayor Pro Tem. Two years ago Mildred was honored as Citizen of the Year in Bosque County.
For over 70 years Mildred was a faithful member of the Walnut Springs Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including teaching a "little girls" Sunday School class until she could no longer see very well.
Mildred was also an active member of the Eastern Star for over 70 years. Among other interests, Mildred loved to quilt, and produced beautiful quilts for her family and also as donated items to raise funds for various community fund raising activities.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Clay and Alberta "Bertie" Chapman; husband, Earl C. Morrison; son, Jerry Morrison; daughters, Nona Morrison and Earline Hunter; sons-in-law, J. O. Morrison and Mel Hunter; and daughter-in-law, Freda Morrison.
