Born on 10 February 1943 in El Reno, Oklahoma, Butch was the only child of Robert Wayne and Margerie Fern (Proctor) Ables. He attended El Reno public schools and graduated from El Reno High School in 1961. He went on to serve in the US Navy as a FTM3 (Fire Control Technician, Missile, Third Class) during the Vietnam War.
Like his father, Butch pursued a life-long career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Correctional Officer. He was married and divorced twice, and has four daughters (two from each marriage).
He was predeceased in 2009 by his father, Robert Wayne Ables. He is survived by his mother Margerie, of Lakeland, FL, and daughters Margerie Roberta Munoz of St. Augustine, FL; Teresa Louise Ables of Las Vegas, NV; and Lynn Ashley Ables and Kelley Ann Ables, both of Miami, FL.
A service with military honors was held on February 24, 2017 at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL, where he was interred.
