The family moved to Marseilles, IL in 1948, where Gayle attended grade and high school. As a teenager Gayle was a participant in competitive Drum and Bugle Corps with the Ottawa Crusaders and remained a strong lifelong supporter. Gayle often attended the Festival of Brass Drum and Bugle Corps competition held in Oswego, IL annually. Gayle relocated to Houston, TX where she married her husband on May 5, 1990 and was employed at Nationwide Building Systems as a mortgage broker.
Gayle is survived by her husband, Charles "Chuc" Navejar; son, George; two grandson, Joshua and Christopher; her parents, George and Dorothea (nee Ellison) of Aurora, IL; brother, Ed (Judi) Dixon of Montgomery, IL; two nephews, Dean and Lenny Dixon; two step-nieces, Cheryl Tate and Rebecca Locke. Gayle and her husband were also considered surrogate grandparents to numerous children throughout their married life. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth; and nephew, Edward.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. until a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. at the MCKEOWN-DUNN FUNERAL HOME, LTD & CREMATION SERVICES at 210 S. Madison St., in Oswego, IL. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
Memorials may be directed to either the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
