VINTON ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Crossroads Baptist Church (1845 Hwy 190 S., Vinton, LA 70668) for Jill Elizabeth Cortez King, age 39, who passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at her residence in Vinton.

Interment will be in Nibletts Bluff Cemetery. Pastor Rob Tibbitts will officiate at the services.

Jill was a native of Houma and a resident of Vinton for over twenty years. She was a graduate of Vinton High School, class of 1995 and upon graduation attended and graduated from McNeese State University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in 2002.

After graduation, Jill was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and handled it with grace and dignity. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and sharing and reminiscing over photos. She had a passion for animals, especially her dog, Bullet.

She will forever be remembered for her courageous battle of Multiple Sclerosis and although she may not have won the fight, Jill has taught all of us not to give up and to embrace our cross we must carry and do it without complaining as she did.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-one years, Sean Bunting; one daughter, Haley Elizabeth Bunting both of Vinton; her paternal grandparents, M.J. Cortez, Jr. and Irene Duplantis Cortez of Houma; her maternal grandmother, Suzanne L. King Pisanie of Vinton; her father-in-law, John Bunting of Vinton; her mother-in-law, Pamela Lunbeck of Ft. Charlotte, FL; and her grandmother-in-law, Marjorie "MaMaw” Bunting of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ricky Paul Cortez and Angela Kim King both natives of Houma; and her maternal grandfather, Errol John King, Sr.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Crossroad Baptist Church (1845 Hwy 190 S., Vinton, LA 70668) from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Rachal, Dusty Benoit, Phillip Granger, Joey Rutledge, Ben Garza, Marcus Cortez and Mark Cortez.

The family would like to personally thank Sean and Haley for showing us what true love is. I am certain that is why Jill survived the added twelve years that doctors thought could not happen. It’s your love that gave her the strength to survive.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the members and staff of St. Patrick Hospice of Lake Charles, especially her nurse, Dawn Broussard, for their care and compassion during her illness.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Jill Elizabeth Cortez King may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society online at: Multiple Sclerosis Society by mail: National MS Society P.O. Box 4527 New York, NY 10163 or by phone: 1-800-344-4867.
