Americus Times Recorder April 21, 1905 page 1 gives a lengthy obiturary. He was a born in Warren County, Ga and married Miss Antoinette Park in Marion County. They moved to Americus following the Civil War. U.S. Lockett was a SGT in Company K, 46th Ga regiment. (On Fold3.com- there is a service record that says he enlisted first with company F of the 1st Regt. troops in Buena Vista, GA) . There are ads in the paper for Lockett and Son and they sold mules. At one point someone burned his barn and a workers home down. Survivors listed include his son, A. E. Lockett of Americus, Mrs. T. E. Lockett (Carrie Beale)Maltsby of Fayetteville, N.C. (She married Dec 22, 1899- see Americus Weekly Recorder), Mrs Eula L. Hollis, Mrs. D. F. Brown and Miss Antoinette Lockett and 3 brothers. Mr. Lockett was highly esteemed in Americus and his funeral was held at First Baptist Church.

Americus Weekly Recorder, Oct 20, 1887 p. 7 on line, lists him with the Sumter Veterans. He is listed with Company K of the 46th Infantry.
