He was born June 24, 1938, in Chillicothe to Herbert and Allie Britton Richter. On June 25, 1960, he married the former Clara Mae Poynor who survives.
Also surviving are children, Peggy Sue (John Boroff) Corya, of Middle Point, John Allen (Cheri) Richter II, of Middletown, Bryan David (Jackie) Richter, of Chillicothe and Michael Douglas (Pam) Richter, of Grove City; grandchildren, Zachary (Savanna) Corya, Shannon (Joshua) Boroff, Rebekah (Mike) Toppins, John Allen (Katie) Richter III, Todd Richter, Siera (Matthew) Schwartz, Sydney (Christopher) Carver, Ethan, Kenton "KK", Jessica, and Garrett Richter; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Sha-Lynn and Lorelai Boroff, Mason Corya and Clara Sue Richter; two sisters, Marian (Glenn) Snyder and Judith Cartee, both of Chillicothe; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Herbert, mother and stepfather, Allie and John McAbee.
John retired from Dupont where he worked as an electrician. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the Charleston Church of the Brethern.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Mel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Charleston Church of the Brethern Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard
