She had a brother, Robert J. Hayes (born about 1929).
On July 24, 1943 in Hollywood California at the age of 19 when she was a mail clerk she married her first husband, 21 year old pilot Benito Ruben "Bennie" Carbajal (born about 1922 in Goliad Texas). He was killed over Germany on January 5, 1944.
On August 21, 1945 in Shelby, Tennessee when she was 21 she married John Joseph Evangelist. They had at least four children together. They divorced in April of 1974 in Imperial, California.
