Raymond Blair Buchanan, Sr.

(June 19, 1944 - February 24, 2017)

On Friday, February 24, 2017 Raymond Blair “Buck” Buchanan, Sr. age 72 of Bluefield, VA went home to be with the Lord. He resided in West Graham, VA with his wife of 48 years, Yvonne L. Buchanan. Born June 19, 1944 at Tip Top, VA, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Helen Brown Buchanan. He was a graduate of the Tazewell County Public School. He proudly served in the USAF and retired as a MSGT after serving 25 years. During the course of his career, he received many accommodations including Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Good Conduct with seven oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters. His career included many overseas deployments, including two tours in Vietnam. Raymond was a member of FCC where he rededicated his life to Christ in 2000. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Alma Brown and Sam and Alice Buchanan; his sister, Janet Lee Buchanan and brother, George Robert Buchanan.

Leaving to celebrate his legacy are his wife, Yvonne L. Buchanan; one son, Raymond Blair “RJ” Buchanan, Jr. and wife, Cindy of South Carolina; one daughter, Nicole Tennille “Cole” Buchanan of South Carolina; three grandchildren, RaVaughn “ Ray” Buchanan, Jade “ Flossy” Buchanan, and Ava Morgan Brandeis of South Carolina; four sisters, Carolyn Wilkes and husband, Robert of Bluefield, WV, Marilyn Buchanan and Kathy Richardson both of Tip Top, VA, and Renae Thomas of New Bern, NC; three brothers, Charles Buchanan and wife, Vera of North Tazewell, VA, Hubert Buchanan and wife, Michelle of Bluefield, WV, and Tony Buchanan of Tip Top, VA; sisters in law, Carolyn Cosby and Butch, Mary Cruz and Timmy, Raynette Daniels and Pecolia McWoodson; nine nieces, Satonia Judon and husband, Herbert, Charlene Buchanan, Shawn Wilkes, and LaKisha Richardson and husband, Ketha, Tiffany Cross and husband, Meech, Candace Alexander husband, Delbert, Jerri Starkey-Morris, Mikayla Buchanan, and Raven Thomas; five nephews, Hubert “Ratio” Buchanan, Jr. and wife, Tia, Robert Wilkes, Jr. and wife, Saprina, Steven Wilkes, Bryan Cosby, and Charlie Thomas; eight great nieces, Ariel, Yasmine, Ashton, Autumn, Victoria, MyEsha, Skylar, and Samara; eight great nephews, Brentson, Khalil, Jaylen, Kyre, D’Metri, and Micah, Allen, and Jordan. He leaves behind many beloved cousins and friends and his favorite cat, Shadow.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM with Bishop Fred Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 3 PM at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA where military graveside rites will be conducted.
