Robert Martin Peachey enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served as a Plank Owner aboard the destroyer DD-871 U.S.S. Damato. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he followed in his father's vocation and became a registered Professional Land Surveyor, working at multiple businesses in Rockland and Orange Counties in New York. He was a resident of Monroe, NY after moving from homes in Rockland County, and in New Jersey where he was raised. On the evening of Sep. 15, 1970 while piloting his privately owned Piper PA-28 Cherokee airplane, he experienced adverse weather conditions and was mortally wounded when his aircraft crashed in Montgomery, NY near Orange County Airport where he kept his plane.
