Joe M. Shaffer passed away at 'lN ANGEL ARMS' February 20, 2017, just 2 days short of his 97th birthday. Joe was born February 22, 1920 in Springfield, Illinois to Harry Shaffer and Clara Bull Shaffer. Joe served in the Army during World War ll. He was a driver under General Patton and drove as part of the "Red Bull Express". He returned to Springfield and his son Joe Lee after his discharge in 1945. Joe married Betty Noe on June 6, 1946 and their daughter, Janet was born March 6, 1948. They lived in Springfield until 1969, when they moved to Arizona. He was employed by the U.S. Postal service until 1961 when an injury caused severe back problems. Joe was very involved in his family and both children soon followed them to Arizona. The camping and fishing trips are happy memories for the children and the grandchildren. Joe is survived by his son, Joe Lee Susan) of Mesa, Arizona and his daughter, Janet of "lN ANGEL ARMS" in Buckeye, Arizona. He also leaves 3 grandchildren, Stacy Leigh, David Shaffer and Bill (Laura) Shaffer and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 100-year-old sister, Nora Mae Hallmark of Springfield, Illinois. No service is planned. His inurnment will be with his beloved wife Betty at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery in Scottsdale.
