Joe was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he enjoyed watching baseball, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and bird watching. Joe was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for Dohrn and Blickhan trucking companies for several years until his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Dena Hughs and her husband, Kevin, of Quincy; a son, Bernard Baker and his wife, Bonnie, of Quincy; a grandson, Bernard Baker Jr. and his wife, Betsy, of Indianapolis; a great-granddaughter, Kathryn "Kitty" Baker of Indianapolis; four stepgrandchildren, Carl Hughs and his wife, Dianna, of Clarksville, Tenn., Dan Galbraith and his wife, Jenny, and Tammy Galbraith, both of Quincy and Vicki Galbraith of Canton, Mo.; a stepgreat-grandson, Tyler Hughs of Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Maxine Gengenbacher and her husband, Charles, of Quincy; a nephew, Michael Gengenbacher and his wife, Paulette, of Gilbert, Ariz.; a great niece, Michelle Fisher and her husband, Scott, of Maricopa, Ariz.; a great-great niece, Gabriella Fisher of Maricopa; and a cousin, Betty Ellison, of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday graveside memorial service will be in Calvary Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James Wheeler. Cremation rites have been accorded. VISITATION: There will be no visitation but friends are invited to the services. MEMORIALS: St. Francis Catholic Church.
