March 21, 1945 to February 21, 2017
As a newlywed, she lived in Turkey for a time
Margaret (Margo) Ann Harmon, 71 of Canby died peacefully in her home the morning of February 21, 2017.
Margo was born Margaret Ann Wilhelm on March 21, 1945 in The Dalles, Oregon to proud parents Rodger and Dorothy Wilhelm. She was the youngest of three children and the only girl.
She graduated from The Dalles High School in 1963. After graduation Margo moved to Portland where she attended Portland Business College and pursued business administrative studies. She earned her certificate and then worked as an executive secretary for Pacific Power & Light.
Margo married her husband of 49 years, Michael Harmon, on August 19, 1967, at First Christian Church in The Dalles, Oregon.
The newlyweds lived for a period of time in Turkey, where Michael was stationed in the Air Force and Margo worked as a G4 rated executive secretary with secret clearance for the military. After their time in Turkey they returned to the states to finish out Mike's term of service in North Dakota, before being discharged and returning to the Portland area in 1973.
In 1969 the couple welcomed their first child, son Paul, to the family and Margo made a career change to full-time mother. Daughter Lisa joined the family in 1974 and she relished being a mother all over again. It was shortly after that in 1975 that the family settled in Canby, Oregon.
When her kids were teenagers, Margo returned to her work as an executive assistant at various companies until her retirement from DouglassHarmon, CPA, LLC in 2007. At that point it was time for her to take on a new roll, one as grandmother, and she couldn't have been more excited. In this world Margo's children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.
It was hard to know Margo for long without knowing of her undying love for her savior Jesus Christ and her unfailing devotion to family and friends. She was one of the most kind, encouraging, and supportive people you could meet. Margo spent many years on the PTA, volunteering with the local schools, serving in the Christian Church, working as a hospital volunteer and with the area Pregnancy Care Centers.
Margo will be remembered as a selfless, giving, kind, and compassionate wife, mother, and friend who never gave up on anything or anyone. She always had a smile and a positive attitude, even when times were tough.
Margo is survived by her loving husband Michael Harmon of Canby, daughter Lisa (David) Wilson of Tualatin, daughter-in-law Nikki Harmon of Canby, her brothers Stan Wilhelm of The Dalles and Don Wilhelm of Palm Desert, along with her three grandchildren Clayton Harmon, Zachary Harmon, and Avery Wilson.
Private services and entombment were held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
A public memorial service will take place on March 3, 2017 at 3:00pm at Grandview Baptist Church, 14855 S Leland Rd, Beavercreek, OR 97004. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions benefiting The Pregnancy Care Center, Reaching Indians Ministries International (RIMI) and Grandview Baptist Church & Christian Academy may be made to the Margaret Harmon Memorial Fund at Grandview Baptist Church.
