Bruce Howell died at the age of 74 on April 1 at Rose Garden Estates in Ritzville.

He was born Dec. 8, 1938, to Gail and Thelma (Donnell) Howell in Spokane.

The family moved to the farm in Ralston and he attended Ralston and Ritzville schools.

He graduated from Central Washington University where he received a Bachelor and Master’s degree in psychology. He continued his education at the University of Oregon, where he received his PhD in Psychology.

He returned to the farm in the early 1980s to help his mother with her failing health.

He was an active community member in Ritzville and Ralston and was active in Ritzville Golf Association, East Adams Rural Hospital Foundation, Ritzville Public Library, Ralston Grange, and Trinity United Methodist Church among many other community groups.

He lived a simple and humble life, yet was a very educated and complex person. He had a dry sense of humor but was very witty.

He is survived by his cousins, Bill (Christine) Donnell of Meridian, Idaho; and James L. (Doris) Howell of St. John, Wash.; their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his loyal friend and cat, Miss Mouser.

His family wishes to recognize Bev McCullough for the loyal friendship and care she shared with him over the years. The family is thankful for the staff at Rose Garden Estates for their loving care; and his neighbors, Steve Taylor and Colleen Ruzicka, for their time and efforts to look after him; and the many other community members and friends who took it upon themselves to support him when he needed it.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Ritzville Public Library; Adams County Pet Rescue; or Trinity United Methodist Church of Ritzville.

A private family interment will be held at St. John Cemetery.

A celebration of life is planned for Friday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ritzville. Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is entrusted with arrangements.
