Janet Edwards Bates passed this life on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville at the age of 75.
Mrs. Bates was born in Shelbyville, TN to the late Thomas Marion and Virginia Williams Edwards. She loved the church and attended Grundy Street Church of Christ for over 40 years. Her faith was strong and she read her Bible every day. She had such a special group of friends at her church that she loved so much. Janet was an extraordinary Southern cook and her Sunday dinners were legendary. She also enjoyed yoga, sewing, reading and going antiquing. She was an accomplished artist and could paint and draw anything. Her professional career included detailed pen and ink drawings, retouching photographs, and also detailed technical drawings and graphic arts. She worked for Jostens, Plummer's Studio, Sverdrup Technology, and retired from ATA. Janet was an extraordinary grandmother, or Nanny as she was called. She was always so proud of any accomplishments, big or small, of her grandchildren, Grant and Gracie. She was loved and cherished beyond measure by her family and will be missed greatly.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bates is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Bates. She is survived by her daughter Julie Christopher and her husband Max of Tullahoma; one sister, Nancy Edwards Clift and her husband Ralph of Morristown, TN; and two grandchildren, Grant and Gracie Christopher.
Visitation for Mrs. Bates will be held on Wednesday, March 1st from 5:00-7:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7:00pm with Bro. Phillip Davis officiating. A private burial will talk place at Hazel Cemetery in Bell Buckle, TN.
