Death of Daughter
While living in Kiowa County, June received the sad news from Kansas that his young daughter, Laura Lena Vandervoort, who was being raised by the Goodell family, had suddenly died after three short days of illness. She died at 4:40 Friday evening, October 2, 1914, at the young age of 5 years and 8 days from appendicitis. The funeral was held at the Christian Church building in Caldwell, Kansas, with W. B. Barton officiating. Laura was laid to rest at the old Drury Cemetery beside her mother, Cora.
It is not known if June came back from Colorado to attend her funeral and burial, but one would have to believe he was no more welcome at her funeral than he was in Hunnewell while she was still living.
