Major Edward Sims Ready - Captain of the Wetumpka Light Guard, Company I, 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment, CSA. Wounded at Seven Pines, wounded and captured at Boonsboro. Appointed Major May 30, 1863, to rank May 2, 1863. Assigned to command of Camp Watts near Notasulga, AL. Ready included both junior and senior reserves in his command. Called Ready's Battalion, aka Battalion of Conscripts and Reserves, it was only Battalion size in April 1864 with at least 3 companies. The Battalion participated with losses at the Battle of Chehaw Station on the Montgomery and West Point RR, July 18, 1864. Survivors surrendered at Montgomery during May of 1865. Ready was paroled at Montgomery, May 18, 1865. Buried at the Wetumpka City Cemetery. Resident of Wetumpka. Named for his maternal grandfather, Edward Sims 1783-1840.
