Jay M. Brooks, 82, formerly of East Donegal Township, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 23, 2017, with his loving wife "Peg" by his side at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, where he resided for the last four years. He lived with Parkinson's Disease for many years and recently suffered a stroke.

Born in Florin, PA he was the son of the late Charles E. and Bertha (Royer) Brooks. He was the loving husband of Margaret Morgan Brooks (Peggy) with whom he shared over 45 years of marriage. Jay was a 1952 graduate of the then Mount Joy High School. He graduated from the then Stevens Trade School in 1955 where he studied electricity.

He worked in farming most of his life and retired from Star Rock Farms in Conestoga after 20 years of service.

As a child, Jay attended the Florin Church of the Brethren and later in life attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown with his family.

Jay proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed television, especially the news, history, and anything scientific. Family was everything to Jay and spending time with his grandchildren was a grand delight to him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by twin daughters, Jessica Jean Brooks of Manheim and Jennifer Carol Lerch, wife of John, of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Abigail (10) and Jacob (7). He is also survived by his brother, Charles W. Brooks, husband of Jo-anne of Mt. Joy. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Harry Goodling and a sister-in-law, Jean Morgan Brumbaugh, and several nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Virginia Goodling.

A Service of Remembrance for Jay will be held at 2PM on Friday, March 3, 2017, in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N. Penryn Rd, Manheim, PA 17545. Interment will be private in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
