"Leonard P. Wilder, 82, of Fremont, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 25, 2017, after a long illness.

Born February 28, 1934, in Saugus, Massachusetts, he graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1952.

An Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, he conducted Water Safety and Canoeing Camps as Scout Leader.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1953, and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara M. Samson, in 1954. They had one daughter, Pamela. His 20-year Air Force career included stations in Louisiana, England, Massachusetts, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska (Missile Site Commander at Tekamah), California, and Indiana.

He retired from the military in 1973, and worked as a draftsman, briefly at Paramont Design and then at Valmont, retiring from there in 1997.

Len designed and did much of the building of his home, taught calligraphy classes, and did volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, church groups, and church choirs.

Len was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Wilder and Lila (Coggin) Wilder-Waldron of Massachusetts, his brother Robert Wilder, of Rhode Island, and brother-in-law Robert Samson, of California

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; sister-in-law Irene Wilder of Rhode Island, brother-in-law Gene (Shirley) Samson of Nova Scotia, Canada, his daughter, Pam (Robert) Lahodny of Belleville, KS; nieces Beverly, Robin, Ann Marie and nephew Stephen of Rhode Island, great nieces and great nephews, and numerous friends across the country.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 11AM, at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to start of funeral service at church.
