Died Tuesday morning February 14, 2017 in Manteca, California at the age of 93. Howard was born August 9, 1923 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Harold and Martha Hale Porter.

During WWII, he served honorably as a medic in the South Pacific while in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Betty Lee on May 6, 1950. He was employed in facility maintenance by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including supervising the reconstruction of the North Drake Rd. building after it was destroyed by a tornado in 1980.

After retiring, he lived in Decatur, Illinois and Burlington, Iowa before moving to Manteca, California. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, 2 daughters, Cheryl and Gayle; a son, David; 2 sisters, Nita and Mary; and 2 brothers, Dick and Bob.

He is survived by 3 sons, Joseph (Gail) of Manteca, CA, and Glenn and Daniel both of Kalamazoo; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday, February 25th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Bishop Kirk Lillrose officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery on S. Westnedge Kalamazoo, MI.
