Reuben B. Bryan came over here with his brothers by ship in the mid 1800's during the great potato famine of Ireland. He came through by way of Boston. This is what a distant relative told my dad long years ago. I don't know if it is correct information, or not. Some records say he was born in AL. Maybe it was his father, or grandfather they were talking about.

An 1855 record shows him living in Baldwin, AL.

Apparently that is where he must have met his first wife Emeline "Emely" D. Rentfrow, because records show that she was born in AL., and that they were married in Lauderdale, AL. (24Jan1847). Their marriage was performed by Samuel Edmondson. They eventually settled down in Columbia Co., AR.

According to an 1860 census he lived in Clay Township, Columbia Co., AR. According to an 1870 census he lived in Warren, Columbia Co., AR. near Falcon, AR.

His first wife Emely died in 1877 in Columbia Co., AR. She was 51 years old.

According to an 1880 census he lived in Smackover, Ouachita Co., AR.

It looks like he owned quite a bit of land in his day. Wish I could have inherited some of it.

He was married a second time to Elizabeth Pernice (Watkins) Price/Bryan of Columbia Co., AR. (DOB: 30Apr1840-DOD: 27Jul1892) on (24Oct1877) in Ouachita Co., AR. John D. Strange signed the surety. They had 2 daughters. Elora Pernice Bryan who married Archimedes (Arc, or Arkie for short) Mahan Harrington, and Ora Allen Bryan who married Grover Cleveland Thrash.

Records show that he was married a third time to Martha A. Smith in the Ouachita Co. AR. area on March 21, 1893. I found an AR. Confederate Pension record (1891-1935) showing she was drawing off of his pension after he passed away in 1903. Not sure if they had any children or not.

He was a Confederate Civil War Veteran (CO E, 11 Ark Cal).

Alabama Overseer.

I just recently found out he was also a Baptist Minister.

It looks like he, and Emely (his first wife) had about 7 children that I know of. (Alonzo B. Bryan (1855-????) who married C. Alline Fulmer, and a daughter Willie M. Bryan (1862-????) who married David Gilbert. Latha L. Bryan (1858-????) was last seen in a 1960 Census Record.

His daughter Polly A. Bryan made it to 32 years of age. She married John E. Alton, or Altom.

Only 3 of his children (that we know of): Martha Elizabeth Bryan Friday, John Dee Bryan, and Rebecca Catherine "Kate" Bryan Lindsey made into their 70's before passing away. Times were very hard back then. A lot of folks died young.

Amazingly, it looks like Reuben B. Bryan passed away at the ripe old age of 78 years old.
