He was a Captain in the Irish Fusiliers. He lived at 34 Gladstone Road, Chester. He was a Roman Catholic. In 1943 he heard that his son Lieutenant and Quartermaster, R.A.M.C. Austin Rahill was taken Prisoner of war by the Japanese. He had been missing since Singapore fell. It wasn't until 1945 that Jame's wife heard that her son was safe in India and receiving medical treatment. Sadly this news was too late for his father James to hear as he had died the year before aged 74 yrs. He was buried on the 10th May 1944.
