Mary E. Armstrong Stephan, 76, of Madison died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born April 17, 1930, in Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of Orville and Zelma Moseley Armstrong. She spent her early life in Illinois, moving to Scott County as a young adult. She had lived in Jefferson County for the past 56 years. She retired after 46 years of service at the U.S. Shoe Corp. in Madison, where she worked as an assembler. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, her cats and going to Wal-Mart.
She is survived by three sisters, Jean Kosnick of Ottawa, Ill., Beth Ann Drake of Venice, Fla. and Joyce Ashby of Madison; six brothers, Don Armstrong of Ottawa, Ill., Dale Armstrong of Chillicothe, Ill., Dean Armstrong of Crothersville, Darryl Armstrong of Peoria, Ill., Dave Armstrong of Alpharetta, Ga. and Dan Armstrong of Lacon, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bernard W. "Bud" Stephan, who died March 7, 2002.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the service Thursday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Lung Association or Fairmount Cemetery. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
