Helga M. Abbe of Sierra Madre died Feb. 2 in Pasadena. She is survived by her husband, Charles; sons Winfield of Georgia and Carl of Davenport; daughters, Jean Huapaya of Oxnard and Raya Highlander of New Mexico; her brother T. S. Paulsen of Boston and five grand children.


Services were held Feb. 7 at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Monrovia. Pastor Kenneth P. Eggers officiated with interment at Live Oak Memorial Park. Douglass & Zook Mortuary.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. for Helga Abbe who died Feb. 2 following a massive heart attack. Services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monrovia, where she was a charter member. Burial was at Live Oak Memorial Park.


Helga Paulsen Abbe was born in St. Paul, Minn. and attended schools there. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, taught English, music and library work in Mora and Madelia, Minn. As well as in Madison, Wisc,


Mrs. Abbe was children's librarian in the Los Angeles County Library system in Temple City for 17 years and retired in 1971. She had been in Sierra Madre since 1943 [*] and helped found the Sierra Madre Community Nursery School. She was also a Campfire leader.


Survivors include her husband, Charles of Sierra Madre; daughters, Raya Hilander of Santa Fe, N.M. and Jean Huapaya of Oxnard; sons Winfield J. of Athens, Ga. and Karl F. of Davenport, Calif. A brother, T.S. Paulsen of Boston, Mass. And five grandchildren also survive.
