Veronica Clare Winschel Mattingly Butler successfully completed her life as God asked her to do, and on Saturday, July 4, 2009, she sings and dances with our father in heaven.
Veronica was born in Perry County, Mo., the loving daughter of Andrew and Philomena Winschel. She and Orville C. Mattingly were married June 18, 1948. They had four children together. He preceded her in death. Veronica and Billy E. Butler of Cape Girardeau were married Feb. 10, 1978, at St. Mary's Cathedral. They had a wonderful life together for 19 years before he preceded her in death.
Veronica was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. She worked at Saint Francis Medical Center 22 years, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include four children, 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Veronica was one of nine children, with five sisters and three brothers.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ursula Michaud and Rita Richardet, and three brothers, Linus, Cletus and Gilbert Winschel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with Father Tom Kiefer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family of Veronica Butler requests all memorials be sent to St. Mary's School or to Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau, and will be accepted at the funeral home and the church.
