return to base with two engines knocked out.
As the plane cleared the North Sea, it exploded
in flight and crashed in the seaside district
of Cliftonville, Margate, Kent, England. Only
two crew members successfully parachuted from
the craft before the explosion. Those still aboard
perished.
The crew killed were:

1st. Lt. George M. Hafner
1st Lt. Claude C Lanphere
1st Lt. Harold J Larson
SSgt. Louis Bart
SSgt. Wilburn L Holt
