Lloyd A. Peterson
November 18, 1930 - March 25, 2016

Lloyd grew up on a farm in Oberon, North Dakota. A true cultivator, he continued this devotion for farming and obtained his PhD in Soil Science from University of Wisconsin(UW)-Madison. He then shared this passion to future generations as a professor in Horticulture at UW-Madison and owning a strawberry farm in Sauk City, Wisconsin.

Lloyd's other accomplishments include thirty years of military service in the US Army, 11th Airborne--retiring as a Colonel, cheering on the UW women's volleyball team, making lefse, and playing golf.

Lloyd's true abiding passion and love though was for his family. Lloyd's signature twinkle in his sky-blue eyes shone bright when he married Arlene Hischenberger at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 1953. And those eyes continued to shine with the birth and raising of their 4 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

MIDDLETON-Lloyd A. Peterson, 85, husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, died on March 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Arlene Peterson; their 3 daughters Cindy Peterson (McRae Anderson), Lisa Peterson (Holly Strope), Lynn Peterson-Maher (Rob Maher); son-in-law Ken Fricke; grandchildren Emily and Amy Fricke, and Max, and Henry Maher; also nieces and nephews; and the rest of his friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Fricke; his parents, Sven and Elna Peterson; and his 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, with Father Brian Wilk and Monsignor Douglas Dushack con-celebrating. Throughout my life, you and Aunt Arlene have always been there. You shared my joy and sorrow. You both have been the moral compass for all of us Hinschberger nieces and nephews, without judgement; just love. I am honored and blessed to be able to call you my Uncle. You will be missed but never forgotten. The world is a better place because you were here. Love, Jeanette A. (Pepper) DeHaan

Terry and I have all of you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. When I think of Lloyd, his sense of humor immediately comes to mind. I vividly recall him and my Dad, Alvin Peterson, laughing away. I can hear them now! --Mary Nere

Dear Lisa, I am so sorry to hear that your father has passed away. I didn't know him but one learns so much from a person's obituary after they are gone. Sounds like he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and friend to all who knew him. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.--Bob and Judy Ford (your neighbors)

I still speak fondly of Mr. Peterson. We spent many hours in his backyard in Monona when he showed me his trees with different fruit on one tree! I lived 3 houses from the Peterson's growing up. I was amazed he spent those times with me explaining how he got the different fruit to grow. He will always have a special place in my "growing up' years.--Jan Edmunds (daughter of Bill and Grace)

Arlene and family: My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. You probably do not remember me. I was Dr. Peterson's first graduate student in 1963. He also employed me in his lab during my undergraduate years. He was directly responsible in guiding me into my PhD program at Michigan State University. His guidance and friendship was always appreciated. In loving memory-- Knudt Miller

Uncle Lloyd was the best uncle anyone could ask for. It's true- his eyes always seemed to be smiling when I looked at him. I think I remember that he called me Pammy. When he was around us he always made everyone seem important to him and loved. I am so happy he married my auntie. May he pray for us all and watch over our families-- Pam Carrier
