On February the 24th at 3:00 am,
Sam past away at Southeastern Regional while recovering from an operation on his shoulder that took place the day before.

Sam was referred to as the "Walking History Book".

Sam was a wonderful person, historian and will be missed by many researchers that he helped.

Obituary:

Samuel (Sam) Angelo West of Lumberton passed through Heaven's gate on February 24, 2017 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton at the age of 62. He was born in Robeson County on January 11, 1955.

A celebration service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church to be immediately followed by a time of visitation.

On January 1, 1978 he was married to Kay Boyd at Antioch Baptist Church. Sam West has been a dedicated employee of the Health Department and Robeson County for 30 years. Sam began his journey with the county at Robeson County DSS. Sam began working at RCHD in 1983 and has served in several Social Work programs. Sam was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is also an avid historian and was very active in the field of genealogical and historical research.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay West; his parents, Carl and Annie Pearl Todd West; and biological parents, Max and Virginia West Pulanco.

Mr. West is survived by his son, Carl West of the home; by his sisters, Sheila Russell (fiancé, Tommy Hendren) and Maxine Thomas (Wayne); brother Luis Pulanco (fiancé, Julia Packer), brother-in-law, Rickey Boyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.
