Georgetta Rebecca Edgemon

Georgetta was born in Wilburton, Ok on September 7, 1920, as Georgetta Maudlin. At age 96, Georgetta passed away on Sunday evening, February 12, 2017, at the Brookdale Skilled Nursing Facility in Bakersfield where she had been a resident since, July 2009.

Her parents Oscar and Epsy Maudlin migrated to Picher OK a lead and zinc mining community in Century, NE Oklahoma where she was raised. She was the third of seven siblings with 4 brothers and 2 sisters whose deaths preceded her own. She married Lloyd Alsbury in Picher, OK in 1939 that passed away in 1992 and had one son, Laymon W. Alsbury born on December 10, 1942. She is the widow of Paul Edgemon that passed away in September 1986.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Laymon and Sharon Alsbury, Bakersfield, CA, 3 nieces and one nephew, Karen Hammonds, Denham Springs, LA, Joyce Achord, Orlando, FL, Linda Forrest, Sand Springs, OK and Greg Maudlin, Robert, WS.

During the 1950's and 1960's, Georgetta was a waitress at four restaurants in Mojave, CA, Tower Cafe, French Cafe, Reno's Cafe and Whites Cafe. She really enjoyed her waitressing work, especially during those years when Mojave/Red Rock Canyon areas was a major Hollywood film location. She spoke of many celebrities that she served over the years at the restaurant and movie site and the studio viewing of a day's end of filming in the Whites Banquet room.

Later she continued her Waitress work at Jacks Waffle Shop in Bishop, CA that was also was a celebrity filming area. She and Paul eventually moved to Bakersfield to spend their retirement years. She entered the Brookdale Skilled Nursing Facility in 2009 where she enjoyed her talks and association with the young nursing staff, lap-top computer and games, her daily morning Bakersfield Californian newspaper, Hollywood Gossip Magazines, Crossword puzzles and the TV Westerns and movies filmed in the areas of her younger days.

As to her final wishes, she was cremated and her urn placed at her burial site at the Mojave Cemetery.
