Rebecca "Becky" Lucille (Henderson) Lawson
Age 78, of Taylorsville, died at Baptist Health Louisville.

Daughter of:
Fred Leroy and Pauline (Fowler) Henderson

Wife of:
Robert Lawson. They met during her freshman year at Berea and were married in the college chapel on the day they graduated in 1960.

She was a graduate of Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, where she majored in English.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville and also attended Elk Creek Baptist Church.

Rebecca parlayed her bachelor's degree in English from Berea and a master's degree and rank one in education from the University of Louisville into a twenty-six year career as a teacher in Spencer County. She began by teaching the seventh grade at the old Waterford school one year, and then taught junior and senior high school English at Taylorsville, retiring in 2000, after guiding generations of Spencer county students to God's own understanding of English grammar and at least a nodding acquaintance with the canon of great literary works in that language. She had a kind and nurturing soul and loved her students, her friends, and her family. She was a founding member of the Friday Afternoon Club at Spencer County High School, and sends her fellow members her kind regards. She had an artistic temperament and dabbled in practical and decorative sewing, painting, and ceramics.

After retiring from teaching, she spent some time as a docent at the J. B. Speed Art Museum and enjoyed her memberships in the Middletown Women's Club and in Book Marms, a book club of like-minded ladies in the area. She even started a chapter of the Red Hat Society in Taylorsville. Her great passion in later life was genealogical research, and she and her cousin, Shelby Morris, were devoted to researching her family line.

Survivors:
Her husband; Three children: Sean Lawson, Kerry Lawson and Shannon Lawson; one brother: Jerry Henderson; one sister: Freddie Cochran; three grandchildren: Kate, River, and Faith; and a host of extended family and friends.

Services:
Funeral services held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville, with Reverend Kenny Jackson officiating.
