David L. Seymour of the Long Community at Highland died peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017 in Lancaster, PA. at the age of 81. He was born in South Orange, New Jersey, and was the son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy Seymour of New York City. Surviving him is his beloved wife of fifty eight years, Sylvia Middleton Seymour, his special children, Andrew L. Seymour and Holly Seymour Yerkes. He also has five delightful grandchildren, Logan and Madison Seymour, and Katelyn, Nicholas, and Kyle Yerkes. His sister, Barry Seymour Boyd, preceded him in death.
Mr. Seymour attended the Collegiate School in New York City, graduated from the Pomfret School in 1954, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1958 where he was past President of the Zeta Psi Fraternity. He was employed by the L. D. Seymour & Co., Ballagh & Thrall, Inc. and the Zippo Mfg. Co. from which he retired in 2001. During his work years he traveled extensively throughout Asia, Australia, and the Middle East promoting the sale of various consumer products. He also was a past President of the Singapore American Club during his seven years of living in Singapore.
Other clubs that Mr. Seymour belonged to were: The Merion Cricket Club, Haverford, PA., The Philadelphia Racquet Club, The Bradford Lunch Club and the Penn Hills Country Club, Bradford, PA. His interests were tennis, golf, bridge, pinochle and reading.
Since retiring in 2001, Mr. Seymour volunteered at the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue Inc. in Reinholds, Pa., also at Garden Spot Village Retirement Community in New Holland, PA., plus the Lancaster PA. Chapter of SCORE, and was an active member and past President of the New Holland, PA. Lions Club. He attended Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA... David was well liked by many friends and business associates and deeply loved by his family. He will be missed by those who knew him.
